Four musicians in “Thank You for the Music — A Modern Tribute to ABBA.” will take a North Platte audience back to the 60s and 70s during a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18.

The concert will be held at the Neville Center for the Performing Arts, downtown at Fifth and Bailey.

The powerful harmonies and popular songs of ABBA, the Swedish pop group of the 70s, will come to life in the high-energy performance sponsored by the North Platte Concert Association. The corporate sponsor is NebraskaLand National Bank.

The original ABBA was organized in the late 60s and became a musical sensation with songs like “Waterloo,” “Take a Chance on Me,” “Knowing Me, Knowing You,” “Fernando,” “Dancing Queen,” “Money Money Money,” and “Mamma Mia.”

Sales of their recordings topped the charts, and the group toured in Europe, Japan, and the United States in sold-out concerts.

During the last 15 years, Mamma Mia, a musical show featuring the music of ABBA, has played to more than 42 million people, and a movie version of Mamma Mia, with Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, was very successful.

“Thank You for the Music—A Modern Tribute to ABBA” is presented on a regular basis at the God and Country Theatre in Branson, Mo.

A touring production has taken the show to venues in Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. Currently, the touring cast is performing in the Midwest and West with appearances in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Nebraska.

Next, the last concert in the 2013-14 season will be John Davidson, who will perform Monday, May 19.

Admission to the concert is with season membership in the North Platte Concert Association. These memberships are available from the secretary of the North Platte Concert Association, Pat Hoban, 1412 West 4th St., North Platte, NE 69101,  phone: (308) 534-4699. Season memberships are $50 for adults and $100 for families. Student memberships are $15. Special patron memberships are also available.
