Grand Jury to review apparent suicideTell North Platte what you think

A Grand Jury will review the apparant suicide in December of Jesse R. Hornbacher of North Platte, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was asked by the Lincoln County Attorney to conduct an investigation of Hornbacher's death, which occured on Dec. 11.

The North Platte Police Department went to 918 N. Walnut around 7:30 p.m. that night, where Hornbacher, 27, was barricaded in his home with loaded guns. Police surrounded the house and tried to talk Mr. Hornbacher into coming out, but after a short standoff, Hornbacher fatally shot himself, the sheriff's office said.

Because Hornbacher was not free to leave the house at the time of the incident, he was technically in custody. Grand jurors are required to review the death of anyone who dies while in custody. The sheriff's office first conducted an independent investigation and submitted the case to the Lincoln County Attorney Rebecca Harling, a sheriff's statement said.

The grand jury will review the findings. It will be comprised of Lincoln County residents. They will conduct a closed hearing, which will convene on April 1 in Lincoln County District Court, according to the sheriff.
