LINCOLN-The North Platte St. Pat's girls' basketball team finished its season on Saturday with a 53-46 win over Emerson-Hubbard in the Class D1 consolation game at Lincoln Southwest High School.
With the third place finish, the program's best ever finish at the state tournament, the Lady Irish end with a record of 22-5.
St. Pat's controlled much of the first half against the Pirates (16-10), who began the tournament as the No. 8 seed and they upset top-seeded O'Neill St. Mary's in the first round. The Irish led 26-16 at halftime.
But Emerson-Hubbard made a furious comeback in the second half and the school from the far northeast corner of the state pulled within one point with about five minutes left in the game.
Fortunately for the Lady Irish, they got some timely buckets and free throws down the stretch to keep the Pirates at bay and St. Pat's was able to finish them off.
Brittany Lawrence led the Irish with 16 points in her final game. The 6-foot-3 Creighton volleyball recruit was one of three Irish players in double figures. Anna O'Malley and Bree Saner followed with 10 points each.
Emerson-Hubbard was led by Madison Martin with 20 points.
Friend, the team that defeated St. Pat's in the semifinals on Friday, won the state title by holding off Humphrey St. Francis 44-43 in the D1 finals on Saturday.
