Eakes Office Plus takes over B&D Tell North Platte what you think

As of 8 a.m. Monday, Eakes Office Plus takes over the business of B&D Office City in downtown North Platte, and will smoothly take care of ther customers, Eakes manager Kevin Hafer said.

B&D officially closed Friday.

"We are looking for a smooth transition," Hafer said. "We will honor their pricing, their contracts on supplies, maintenance agreements on copiers, and so forth."

Hafer said Eakes bought some of the equipment B&D has in inventory but did not buy the building at 321 East Fifth. Eakes may hire some B&D employees, but has not done so yet.

B&D president James Frederick will join his wife in offering marriage counseling, Hafer said.

Hafer said Frederick approached Eakes to see if the North Platte store would be interested in assuming their business.

"They were a very good competitor and a good company for a long time," Hafer said. "We are excited that they chose us."

Eakes is a Nebraska company, with 12 stores from Omaha to North Platte. It has been in business since 1945. The North Platte retail store opened in 1985 at its current site, 520 N. Vine, Hafer said.
