Logan J. Reed
Logan Reed of North Platte showed up for court Monday on one charge and picked up another one.
Reed, 18, came to the district court to face a felony theft charge, but a police officer charged him with marijuana distribution after he arrived.
Reed picked up the first charge back in November for allegedly stealing stuff from vehicles that were parked in the southwest part of town. Police said they found Reed and KC Lee Betancud, 18, with cash, stolen property and prescription drugs that were traced to thefts from vehicles.
Betancut served 16 days in jail and was released on a personal recognizance bond. If he fails the terms of the bond, he will pay $10,000.
Reed served 8 days in jail, then came up with the required 10 percent of a $5,000 bond and was released to await his day in court, which was Monday.
But on Thursday, Feb. 20, he was implicated in the distribution of marijuana with Austin Welch, 20, from a house in the 100 block of S. Chestnut. Officers went looking for Welch after Welch failed to take care of a speeding ticket and they found marijuana and paraphernalia in the home, including pipes and bongs, digital scales and packaging material.
Police believe that Reed was also involved in the marijuana operation and charged him with distribution. His appearance in district court on the theft charge was postponed pending arraignment in county court on the drug charge.
He was processed and released at the jail on Monday.
