Teams came from Alliance St. Agnes, Broken Bow, Cozad, Hershey, Kimball, Ogallala, McCook and Sidney to the second annual shootout, hosted by Ogallala.

This was the first year that a team from Hershey was invited. According to their coach Trevor Hall, it was an opportunity not to be missed.

“Playing teams that you have not faced before gives our players a chance to see how they stack up to different competition,” Hall said. “Some of the teams we face here will be regular season opponents when these kids play high school ball.”

The tournament was on schedule throughout the day, well officiated and well attended by parents and fans from all eight schools, who filled the bleachers of both gyms.

Ogallala High School Athletic Director Scott Rezac organizes and oversees the event.

Rezac said his goal was to bracket teams against the teams that they did not face in the regular season.

Games were held in both the high school gym as well as the city auditorium. Each team played three games. The championship game was in the city auditorium. After working through the brackets, Sidney and Broken Bow were undefeated and met in the first place game.

To reach the finals, Sidney defeated Hershey and Cozad. Broken Bow beat McCook and Ogallala.

In the championship, Sidney prevailed in a hard fought game, 53-48, finishing with a perfect 3-0 record.
