"They're a good team," NPHS coach Mark Woodhead said. "They have shooters, size and depth. When they sub they don't drop off. (Sam Waldron) and (Marisa Lowe) are the two cogs that drive the machine for them."

The Wildcats (21-3) flexed their muscles from the opening tip onward. Marisa Lowe and Paige Phipps scored the first two baskets of the game. Then Kate Suelter hit a free throw to make it 5-0.

Suelter then scored her second and third points of the game on a layup and then Hanna Selinger made a jump shot just inside the three-point arc to give Millard West a 9-0 lead.

Kaitlynn Harvey made a jumper to put the Lady Bulldogs (13-10) on the board just halfway through the third quarter. But the Wildcats scored the next seven points to stretch the lead to 16-2.

Both teams then traded buckets before Hannah Wilke made a three-pointer for North Platte to close the first quarter, which ended with Millard West holding an 18-7 lead.

"We're a perimeter-oriented team and when shots aren't falling, we struggle to score," Woodhead said. "(Millard West) is so long and athletic. They defended us. But we had some good looks that just didn't fall."

Millard West then broke the game open in the second. The Wildcats expanded their lead to 27-12 with Lowe putting on a shooting display by making three from downtown in that stretch. The Bulldogs just couldn't keep up and at halftime, it was 40-14.

NPHS did cut into the lead some in the fourth quarter as Millard West emptied its bench and the margin was a little more respectable toward the end.
