GOTHENBURG-The Sutherland girls' basketball team outscored North Platte St. Pat's 25-10 in the second half on Thursday to win the subdistrict championship 43-28.
Both teams were tied at 18 points each at halftime. But the Lady Sailors (19-5) stormed out in front in the third quarter to take control and they never looked back.\
The Sailors had a very balanced scoring effort from four players - Sam Staggs, Jalyne Schuster, Kaley Stokey and Kenzie White. Staggs led Sutherland with 12 points. Stokey followed with 11 and Schuster and White each had 10. Staggs also had six rebounds and six steals.
After winning the D1-11, Sutherland will play Hemingford (20-3) for the district title on Feb. 23 in Sidney.
St. Pat's (20-4) still has a shot to get into the state tournament with the wild card as they are ranked No. 3 in wild card points. But after O'Neill St. Mary's, the No. 1 ranked team in the point standings, lost their subdistrict final to Boyd County, the Irish will need No. 2 Friend to win its district championship.
