Col. Tom Brewer (retired), Republican candidate for Nebraska’s Third Congressional District, has challenged Rep. Adrian Smith to one or more debates before to the May 13 primary election.
“Now that we have both filed for election for the Third District Congressional race, I would like to invite you to one or more public debates," Brewer wrote to Smith. "I understand your schedule is very busy and time away from Washington during the session is difficult. However, I’m sure you will agree that the voters deserve the opportunity to hear their representative and his challenger discuss the issues that are important to the District, the State of Nebraska and our great nation."
Brewer said his campaign staff has entered into discussions with several media outlets to gage interest in hosting one or more debates.
"The preliminary response has been very positive," he said. "Since the Nebraska Republican Party has been active in sponsoring and organizing debates for the GOP gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races, we are also contacting them to help sponsor the debates."
“The details, rules and sponsors can be discussed between representatives of our campaigns as we move forward. I would greatly appreciate your reply to this request at your very earliest convenience,” Brewer wrote.
