District chairwoman Betty Van Boening indicated that great things had happened in 2013, including Jim Parish becoming the district executive and moving the Western Service Center and store to 503 East Fourth in North Platte.

The district now stretches from the South Dakota border to the Kansas border, from Brule to Cozad and encompasses 40 units that teach life, leadership and survival skills to young men.

Special awards were given to:

• Supporters of the Year:  Pat & Kathleen Keenan and Dan and Sandy Keenan (for long-term financial support of the program).

James Griffin, Curator at Lincoln Co Historical Museum (for providing 10 Eagle Scout projects in the last several years).

Silver Beaver Award (which is the council-level distinguished service award) to Chad Adams.

Buffalo Bill District Award of Merit (which is the District level distinguished service award) to Brenda Robinson and Betty Van Boening.

In 2013, 18 young men in the Buffalo Bill district attained the rank of Eagle Scout and 3 received the Venture Gold Award.

Many volunteers were also honored for their hours of hard work and dedication to the program.

Van Boening said that volunteers are the backbone of the program that "invest in" and "influence" so many young lives.
