The Lady Dawgs (13-9) won all three East-West games at the Dawg House this weekend by beating Alliance on Thursday and Scottsbluff on Friday.

"It's definitely a confidence booster," NPHS coach Mark Woodhead said.

Of the three teams in the East-West Shootout, Gering (12-11) appeared to be the toughest going in. But against them, the Lady Dawgs never trailed.

Kaitlynn Harvey scored the first five points of the game for North Platte and then Sally Hengen made a jumper in transition to make it a 7-0 start for the Lady Dawgs.

NPHS led 13-4 at the end of the first quarter. Gering cut into the lead in the second when Savannah Walker hit a three-pointer to bring the Bulldogs to within 15-11.

But Gering didn't get any closer. North Platte expanded the lead to 23-13 with just over a minute left in the first half after a pair of free throws by Madalynn Doughty that followed a Harvey three. Both teams traded baskets the rest of the half with Ashlyn Schultz hitting a three right before the buzzer for Gering and it was 25-16 at the break.

Woodhead said that his team's defensive pressure kept Gering from getting much going on offense.

"We were able to press (in all three games)," he said. "It's such a mental block to struggle to get the ball up the floor on offense."

Allison Sawyer and Jessy Hunt scored the first two baskets of the second half to reestablish the momentum for NPHS. Then Harvey drilled a three from the right corner to make it 32-16. Harvey then scored again on a layup and Doughty got a basket to finish the 11-0 run that crippled Gering. It was smooth sailing for North Platte afterward.

Woodhead said that he liked the way his team shot the ball in the second half to finish the stretch of three games in three days.

"If you hold any team to seven points in the second half that's a huge plus," Woodhead said. "Offensively, we did a good job. We shot the ball pretty well. In the third game of this, you worry about your team having legs. But we did a good job of getting good shots."
