Candidates Jenkins, Bruning to be at Espresso Shoppe ThursdayTell North Platte what you think

Jim Jenkins, an independent candidate for the U.S. Senate, will host meet and greet from 4-6 p.m. Thursday downtown at the Espresso Coffee shop, 419 North Dewey.

Earlier, Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning will be at the Espresso Shoppe at 1:45 p.m. for a casual meet and greet, his campaign organizer Dave Lopez said. Bruning ,who entered the Republican race for governor on Monday, is expected to be in town for at least 45 minutes.

Jenkins said he wants to meet people and give them the chance to sign his petition to be listed on the November ballot as an Independent candidate for the senate.

Jenkins is a cattle rancher and restaurant entrepreneur from Custer County.

Jenkins said, "If we truly want to change Washington, we have to change the rules by which Congress is elected and demand that Congress change its own rules to focus less on party power and more on the good of our country."

Bruning is challenging a Republican slate of Mike Foley, Tom Carlson, Pete Ricketts and Beau McCoy for governor. According to an early poll, he is a front-runner.
