Kenneth Main of Sutherland is running for Lincoln County Commissioner to represent district 3, which includes his hometown.
Main is the second candidate to announce for the commissioner's seat that is currently held by Willis Roethemeyer. Roethemeyer is not running for re-election. Ron Books of Lake Maloney announced Jan. 29 that he is in the race.
Main is a lifetime resident of Sutherland who served 18 years on the Sutherland village board. He was a village board member from 1972-82 and again from 1990-98.
He has represented Sutherland before the Lincoln County Commissioners on many issues over those years, including county law enforcement and amublance agreements.
Main is a 1953 graduate of Sutherland High School and holds a bachelor's degree in education. He studied French and business administration.
In 1957, he joined his father and brother in a trucking operation, buying and selling grain in a four-state area. Main ran the company alone after his father died in 1970, and retired in 2003 after 46 years in business.
Main is married to Jacky, his wife of 55 years. The couple have three children, all married with children.
The deadlines to file for office are approaching.
Incumbents have until 5 p.m. Feb. 18 to file for re-election or election to another office with the Lincoln County Clerk.
Challengers have until 5 p.m. March 3.
