North Platte woman leaves car running, cited for child neglectTell North Platte what you think

A North Platte mother was cited for child neglect Saturday when she left three children in the car that was illegally parked at the Wal-Mart Super Center with the engine running.

A patrol officer found the children inside the unlocked car. They were distressed, according to a police report.

Police spokesman Rodney Brown said the Toyota was parked in one of the handicap stalls near the south entrance of the Walmart Super Center around 4:30  p.m. Saturday.

Two girls, ages 8 and 9, and a three-year-old boy were inside, unsecured in the backseat, Brown said. The boy was moving around the vehicle. The oldest child appeared frightened and told the officer that her mother, Neallene Kuhlmann, went into the store.

About five minutes later, Kuhlmann returned and talked with the officer, who determined there was probable cause of criminal child neglect. He cited Kuhlman for that charge, punishable by up to a year in prison, and also issued her a ticket for a handicap parking violation.

The high temperature that day was 28 degrees, Brown said.
