Basketball: Northeast too much for Lady DawgsTell North Platte what you think

NPHS played valiantly most of the game. The Lady Dawgs made six three-pointers but it wasn't enough to challenge the Rockets.

"I thought for two and a half quarters, we played pretty good," North Platte coach Mark Woodhead said.

With just under two minutes left in the first quarter, Northeast (16-3) took an 11-5 lead after Toni Tupper made a pair of free throws that followed a basket by Shaneequah Watkins.

It because a double figure lead after the Rockets got two more points each from Watkins and Tupper.

Kaitlynn Harvey hit a mid-range jumper for the Lady Bulldogs (10-9) with 24 seconds left. But Tupper got another basket at the buzzer as she recovered a ball that was saved from going out of bounds by Allison Sawyer and it was 17-7 at the end of the first.

Tantashea Giger and Morgan Ewing scored baskets for Northeast to start the second and then Watkins buried a three to make it 24-7.

"It seemed we lost touch there," Woodhead said. "We made a couple of mistakes and it led to transition buckets for them. Northeast has some really good athletes."

North Platte played better for the rest of the quarter and they were down just 34-23 at halftime.

Early in the second half, the Lady Dawgs came within 40-32 after threes by Harvey and Sally Hengen. But the Rockets went on another run to separate themselves further and NPHS could never get back within reach.
