A 10-day investigation into a stolen cell phone ended over the weekend when police tracked down and charged a North Platte woman and man, charging them with theft and drug crimes.

The case began around 3 p.m. Jan. 22, when an employee with US Cellular at 116 N. Jeffers told police that a cell phone had been swiped from the business.

Daniel Endicott, 28, was suspected of the shoplifting because he was near the place about the time the theft occurred, according to North Platte Police Spokesman Rodney Brown.

In investigating the theft, officers learned that Roxanne Duran, 39, allegedly had the missing phone – a Galaxy Samsung S4 – along with its SIM card.

Police caught up with Duran around 2 a.m. Monday morning at Casey’s at Rodeo Road and Buffalo Bill Avenue.

Duran told officers that she did not have the stolen phone and gave police permission to search her and her belongings. Sure enough, police found the stolen cell phone, which contained the stolen SIM card, inside a bag that belonged to Duran, Brown said.

Duran was charged with possession of stolen property, a felony.

Not only that, Brown said a further search turned up drug paraphernalia commonly used to smoke marijuana, as well as several prescription pills such as Clonazepam, Acetaminophen/Hydrocodone, Zolpidem and Tramadol -- all controlled substances.

Officers also found several empty clear plastic baggies, a clear plastic baggy with a white powder and a crystal substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. The baggies will be sent to the Nebraska State Patrol laboratory for verification of their residue, Brown said.

Duran was taken to the Lincoln County Jail, charged with possession of stolen property, four counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of legend drugs. She was also charged with driving under a suspended license and she was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction.

Her combined bond was set at $17,500.

Endicott picked up an added charge of shoplifting along with violation of a protection order. His combined bonds total $20,000.
