The Sutherland high school wrestlers fought to third place Saturday at the Irish Invitational in North Platte, finishing just six points behind the runner up, Kearney Catholic. Sedgwick Co.-Fleming of Colorado dominated the 11-team meet to take the team championship.
Maxwell finished fourth. St. Patís was sixth and North Platte High School was eighth.
The Sutherland wrestlers earned two individual first places. Colin Fleecs won the 132-pound division, felling Ethan Lunkwitz of Maxwell at the 3:32 mark. Bryson Dick took the 285 pound division with a fall over Jeremiah Keith of Maxwell in 1:43.
The Sutherland team also had five third places, one fourth and a fifth place.
Jaylon Sturdivant of Maxwell took first place in the 152-pound division, the best finish for the Wildcats. Teammate Houston Crane was second at 220 pounds, and Lunkwitz and Keith also earned second places for the Wildcatsí.
For St. Patís, Trey Dodson finished second at 113 pounds, losing a sudden victory to Keegan Mann of Sedgwick County. Dodson is now 27-9 on the season.
At 120 pounds, Nate Chrisman of St. Pat's was second, losing a 3-2 decision to Dalton Zimmerman of Mullen.
For North Platte, Aaron Houser advanced his second record to 28-7 to win the 126-pound division with a 6-2 decision over teammate Alex Murphy.
