The North Platte High School boys' basketball team couldn't get much momentum against a bruising Lincoln Southeast team on Friday in a 60-49 loss at the Dawg House.
"The kids played hard," NPHS coach Matt Kaminski said. "We've got to play smarter and their depth hurt us."
Southeast (12-4) got out to a 9-2 lead after baskets by B.J. Day and Trey Beamon. The Knights were in control throughout the first half and they led 28-20 at halftime.
The visitors from Lincoln expanded the lead in the second half to 36-21 after Clayton Peterson made consecutive baskets.
The Bulldogs (8-8) showed some life when Kade Erickson, Darian Allberry and Shane Mauch buried three-pointers to make it 38-32 with three minutes left in the third quarter.
But Beamon and Nebraska football recruit Luke Gifford scored buckets to stop the bleeding for Southeast and make it a double digit lead again.
North Platte never got as close again as the Knights cruised to victory the rest of the way.
