"I felt like I got hit right in the belly," NPHS coach Mark Woodhead said on his reaction to the shot.

The game-winning shot by Lattimer was the climax to what was an up and down game that had several changes of momentum.

Lincoln Southeast (7-9) was the first to gain the upper hand. The Knights took a 24-14 lead in the second quarter on a basket by Tyra Douglas.

But the Lady Bulldogs (10-6) went on a 7-0 run. The two teams traded buckets in the last minute of the second before Southeast scored the last basket of the first half when Douglas put in a miss by Natalie Dettmer that made it 28-23 at halftime.

"In the first half, we didn't play well," Woodhead said. "But I felt we could have been down even worse."

Both teams battled it out in the opening minutes of the second half. But North Platte got some momentum as it tied the game at 31 with a three by Kaitlynn Harvey almost halfway through the third quarter.

The Lady Dawgs took the lead at 39-37 a couple of minutes later on a Harvey layup. Then on the next possession, the junior guard scored inside to make it 41-37.

On the ensuing play, Madalynn Doughty stole the ball and fed it to Marisa Martinez for a layup to make it a six-point NPHS lead.

Harvey, who had a game high 26 points, keyed the third quarter run for the Bulldogs. But Woodhead said that her teammates also picked up their intensity in that stretch.

"I couldn't have told you Kaitlynn had 26 (watching her from the bench)," he said. "But it wasn't just Kaitlynn who got us back into it."

In the fourth quarter, Harvey nailed a big three to give North Platte some cushion with a 51-46 lead.

But Southeast got a basket by Lattimer and then a three by Reanne May to tie the game a minute later.

The two teams traded misses until with eight seconds, Erykah Houser fouled Harvey trying to deny her the ball near the 18 feet away from the hoop. With the Lady Dawgs in the bonus, Harvey got the opportunity to give them the lead and possibly win the game.

Harvey made the first of the one-and-one and then she buried the next one for a two point NPHS lead.

Southeast brought the ball up the court and then called timeout with four seconds left. The ball was inbounded to Karsin Underwood on the right wing. Underwood then passed the ball to Lattimer straightaway. With time running out, Lattimer heaved the ball up. It hit off of the backboard and right in to give the Knights the win.

"I thought they might just try and get down and shoot," Woodhead said. "Coming out, we fronted (Douglas) because we didn't want them to stuff it in to her. We went zone and we put pressure on them and then they kick it out to the top. That was tough to swallow. You play well enough to win and you give up a bank three."
