The auction starts at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31 and will be broadcast live to the museum.

The auction consists of more than 200 lots of personal Cody family photographs, documenting the great showman's life.

Rare family albums and individual photos of Cody's career with the "Wild West" shows will be offered.

The Garlow Collection is considered the largest privately held collection of Buffalo Bill photographs in existence. The majority of the items descended directly in the family of Irma Louise Cody Garlow (1884-1918), William Cody's daughter.

Cowan's Auctions, Inc. will host the collection of Cody family photographs and sell from the company's salesroom in Cincinnati, Ohio.

One of the featured items in the sale is a Cody family photograph album, including personal and professional portraits, Wild West Shows and western scenery with an estimated value of $8,000-$10,000. The album contains 301 images, mostly photographs of William F. Cody, the Wild West Show and performers in the show.

Another lot, consisting of two albums of William F. Cody at leisure, were compiled and presented by the illustrator R. Farrington Elwell and are expected to bring $6,000-$8,000, according to the auctioneers.

Photographs of Cody all the way up until his death on Jan. 10, 1917 will be offered, including two that were taken five days before his death.

For more information, contact the museum at 534-5604.

Bidding will be available in person, over the phone, absentee, or live via the Internet through liveauctioneers.com.
