The North Platte High School girls' basketball team made nine three-pointers on Friday on their way to a 73-54 win at home over Lincoln High.
The Lady Bulldogs (10-4) scored the first five points of the game only to see Lincoln High (1-13) answer back with five of their own. NPHS then went on a 7-0 run after a three by Madalynn Doughty that followed baskets by Kaitlynn Harvey and Allison Sawyer.
But they still couldn't shake off the Links as Jazmin Meyer-King and Alexis Graewe knocked down threes to bring it to 14-13. The Lady Dawgs scored two more buckets in the first quarter while Lincoln High scored one and it was 18-15.
"I think we can defend better than we did in the first quarter," North Platte coach Mark Woodhead said. "But give credit to Lincoln High, they hit shots. But we have to do better defending their shooters."
NPHS started to break away late in the second quarter. The Bulldogs took a 23-17 lead after a basket by Doughty that followed a Sally Hengen three. Then Sawyer buried another three to make it a nine-point game before Harvey closed out the 10-point rally with a layup off of a Link turnover.
It wasn't even the biggest run of the second quarter for the Lady Dawgs. North Platte ended the half with a 12-0 run and they led 42-22 after Marisa Martinez scored right before the buzzer.
"If you can extend a lead, that's a big plus," Woodhead said.
After halftime, the Lady Bulldogs made it 19 unanswered as they opened the second half with seven more to bury Lincoln High and win going away.
