The North Platte High School boys' basketball led from the opening tip forward on Friday night and the Bulldogs beat Lincoln High 67-48 at the Dawg House.
"It was nice to shoot as well as we did," NPHS coach Matt Kaminski said. "From start to finish, our energy and enthusiasm was great."
The Bulldogs (8-6) set the tone by scoring the first five points on a basket by Drew Callaghan and a three-pointer by Kade Erickson.
At the end of the first quarter, North Platte led 14-8. Kolby Foote opened the second with a three-point play to give the Dawgs a nine-point lead. Then Erickson hit another three.
But NPHS wasn't done. Shane Mauch then scored when he put in a missed Erickson three. Then at just over two minutes into the second quarter, Bradey Anderson got a layup to make it 24-8.
The Dawgs still led comfortably at halftime at 35-17 and they kept the pressure on Lincoln High (8-6) in the second half. On the first play after halftime, Callaghan scored on an alley-oop and then Mauch followed by burying a three.
From there, it was smooth sailing as the Links were unable to get back in the game.
"We played zone for most of the game to keep them out of the paint," Kaminski said. "We created a lot of turnovers and transition opportunities. We haven't played well at home so it was nice to have that kind of a spark tonight."
