The Hershey boys' basketball team could not get on track on Tuesday in its 60-29 loss to Imperial in the first round of the South Platte Valley Association tournament.
"We just didn't take care of the basketball," Hershey coach Dustin Jorgenson. "We didn't handle (Imperial's) pressure as well as we should have."
Hershey (2-14) scored the first three points of the game after Landan Maassen made a shot from beyond the arc.
But Imperial (10-4) established itself with a 9-0 run and the Longhorns took a six-point lead a little over halfway through the first quarter after Jeffrey Dickey got a layup off of a steal.
The Longhorns led 18-9 at the end of the first after consecutive baskets by Kevin German. Imperial then started to dominate and they had a 28-15 lead at halftime.
Imperial's defensive pressure really limited Hershey offensively as the Panthers were really indecisive bringing the ball up the floor.
"We just weren't strong enough with the ball," Jorgenson said. "When you don't take care of the ball against a good team like that it will bite you in the rear."
Imperial will play Kimball in the SPVA semifinals on Friday.
