A soldier digs into some chicken at the Canteen.
A video about the World War II North Platte Canteen continues to make waves around the world.
The video was created in 2007 for Military Ministry, a group that raises funds to help soldiers and their families.
It now has 1.2 million views on youtube alone.
The video is posted at lower left of the Bulletin website at the request of a Bulletin reader.
At the Canteen, millions of soldiers who were headed off to world war received a hug and a handshake, homemade cakes and cookies, and a moment of respite and prayer from thousands of volunteers from west-central Nebraska communities.
A typical stop lasted only 10 minutes. Many veterans never forgot it.
The spirit of service to others is vital to America today.
