Fundraiser set for high school student with leukemia Tell North Platte what you think

There will be a fundraiser from noon to 4 p.m. at the Eagles Club on Jan. 26 for Tucker Brown, a high school senior at with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia.

Brown was diagnosed June 28 and is undergoing extensive medical treatment. He is currently finishing his fifth round of chemotherapy in Denver, according to family and friends. If the leukemia is in remission, he will undergo a bone marrow transplant.

The fundraiser will be a soup-cooking competition for an entry fee of $25 a team. All soups are welcome. To enter a team or donate items for a silent action during the competition, contact Mitchell at 660-1145.

The public is invited to eat the soup and vote for their favorite. There will be a $6 fee for adults, $4 for children 12 and under and children under 3 are free. Tickets will be sold at the door. There will be lots of donated silent action items sold to the highest bidder.

Brown will next undergo bone marrow aspirate and start preparing for a bone marrow transplant in January or February if the leukemia is in remission. The process requires 7-10 days of intense chemo followed by the transplant. He will remain hospitalized for 30-40 days after the transplant and must remain living in the Denver area for another 100 days.

Donations may be made at any time to First National bank under the Tucker Brown Benefit Account.
