Baker, 16, and another teen are accused of attempted murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony as well as theft and escape.

Dr. Lloyd Kimzie, PhD, told the Lincoln County District Court on Monday that he’d evaluated Baker and found him competent to stand trial.

Defense attorney Patrick Heng asked for a jury trial.

Jury selection for Baker is scheduled to begin March 11. Lincoln County District Judge Donald Rowlands said that the trial will likely start the next week after that.

In the attempt in July, Diana Johns was stabbed twice and Robin Schneider was stabbed five times.

The teens were rounded up later in Schneider’s car, 60 miles east of North Platte, according to prosecutors.

In September, Lincoln County District Judge Donald Rowlands denied a defense motion to try Baker in juvenile court.
