The North Platte High School girls' basketball team went on a 23-point run in the first half on Saturday on its way to a 58-42 win over Papillion-LaVista South at the Dawg House.
"We played better (than on Friday night against Kearney)," NPHS coach Mark Woodhead said.
Both teams battled for momentum in the first quarter and Papillion-LaVista South (4-6) led 13-12 at the end of the first eight minutes.
But after scoring the last basket of the first quarter, the Lady Dawgs (8-3) went on a tear. The North Platte lead suddenly rose to double digits three minutes into the second quarter after a basket by Katelynn Harvey made it 24-13.
Then it became 20 when Taylor Johnson closed out the run by making a pair of free throws with just over a minute left until halftime.
The Titans finally ended their drought when Jen Bolgar made two free throws with 32 seconds left. But the Lady Bulldogs added another basket before the horn to lead 35-13 going into the locker room.
"We knocked a bunch of shots down," Woodhead said. "Those were backbreakers."
Papillion-LaVista South cut into the lead into the fourth quarter. But it wasn't enough to threaten the Lady Dawgs.
