Sarah L. Waugh
A North Platte woman was charged Tuesday with child cruelty after a hair sample from her child was verified to contain methamphetamine residue. Sarah Waugh, 24, was first suspected on Nov. 15, when a police investigator went to the 2800 block of W. Fifth to help Health and Human Services investigate the welfare of the child.
HHS had received an anonymous tip through it’s hotline that Waugh was using drugs around her child, John Deal of the North Platte police said.
the investigators believed that Waugh had used drugs in the recent past, but was not under the influence at that time. Based on the complaint, however, the child was taken to the Bridge of Hope advocacy center, where a hair sample was removed to be tested for drugs.
Several days later, the result of the test was returned by the lab, and it was positive for methamphetamine.
Waugh had moved out of the area and could not be located at that time, but recently she returned, Deal said. She was arrested and charged with felony child abuse.
