The Sandhills-Thedford girls basketball team handed Sutherland its second loss the season Tuesday, 53-41.
Sutherland (6-2) held a 15-12 lead after the first quarter but scored only two points in the second period.
Both teams exploded offensively in the third quarter. Sutherland posted 24 points but lost ground to Sandhills-Thedford (8-2), which scored 28 points.
The game went quiet in the fourth quarter. Neither team scored.
Sam Staggs led Sutherland's offense with 25 points. Staggs hit 9-18 shots from two-point range and was 2-2 from three-point range. She also hit 5-5 from the free throw line, snared six rebounds, blocked three shots and came up with three steals.
Sutherland's Jalyne Schuster scored nine points, grabbed seven rebounds, had three steals and three assists.
