Dakota R. Niles
A young North Platte man was arrested over the weekend for failure to face up to charges of sexual assault.
On Saturday, Nebraska State Trooper Ryan Hayes spotted a car at the intersection of East Philip and Newberry that matched the description of one sought in connection to a warrant for Dakota Niles, 22.
Niles was wanted for failure to appear in court on five counts of sexual assault of a child.
Niles was first charged with sexual assault in September 2012 after a 14-year-old girl said he assaulted her.
Niles had pled not guilty in Lincoln County District Court on Aug. 12 and was released on bond.
When he did not show for his next court date, a warrant was issued.
The alleged victim made the accusations during an interview at the Bridge of Hope Advocacy Center. According to a sheriff’s statement, the girl said the first assault was in spring 2011 and the last one in August 2012. The girl told officials that Niles was aware of her age.
Niles now faces three counts of failure to appear, along with the five sex assault charges. He is held without bond.
