A North Platte woman was jailed early Monday morning, charged with failing to take care of an older woman.

Police got involved around 12:30 a.m., when they were summoned to the emergency room of Great Plains Regional Medical Center, police spokesman Rodney Brown said.

The hospital staff said a 62-year-old woman in ER had not received the proper medication, leading to seizures and unresponsiveness. And, the staff told the investigator that the same thing had occurred at least once a month for six months, Brown said.

The officer also learned that Tia Eggers, 33, was in charge of caring for the woman. When Eggers arrived at the hospital, the officer determined there was probable cause to arrest her for vulnerable adult abuse, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Brown said that Eggers was also wanted for failure to appear on a traffic citation, and during the arrest, the officer smelled burnt marijuana and a search turned up less than an ounce of marijuana on her.

Eggers was jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center. Her bond is set at $10,000.
