Basketball: Sawyer leads Lady Dawgs to conference finalsTell North Platte what you think

SCOTTSBLUFF-Behind 27 points by Allison Sawyer, the North Platte High School girls' basketball team defeated Kearney 53-50 in overtime on Friday in the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference semifinals.

Sawyer, a 5-foot-3 senior who scored a new career-high, made a three-pointer in the final seconds to force overtime. In the extra period, the Lady Dawgs (7-1) outlasted Kearney (4-4) to make the championship game of the GNAC tournament for the first time in five years.

NPHS will play Norfolk (6-2) on Saturday in the finals at 2:30 p.m.

It has been a long drought for the Lady Bulldogs in the GNAC as their last conference tournament title came in the 2005-2006 season.
