Othman manufacturing of Lexington has opened an assembly plant and warehouse in Kempton Park, South Africa, the company announced Dec. 17.
The plant will "better meet agricultural needs in South Africa and the sub-Saharan region," the company said in the announcement.
Orthman provides agricultural equipment and implements around the world, plus conveyor and bulk-handling systems and industrial earthmoving equipment.
As a subsidiary of Orthman, the Kempton Park facility provides products and support services to the Orthman and John Deere dealer network in that region. The plant will produce a strip tillage machine and a planter with John Deere planter row units, the company said.
The planter is configured to meet the requirements of South African and sub-Saharan practices and conditions.
“The facility in South Africa allows us to provide the right machinery and agronomic solutions for the land, ultimately helping the people of this region see greater success,” Orthman President John McCoy said.
Combining the tillage system with the planter units will provide efficiency and precision to take production to the next level, the announcement said.
Orthman is an allied partner of John Deere, said Rod Haarberg, senior vice president of marketing for Orthman.
Orthman also oversees the delivery of its wide variety of products through its own logistics division.
