Lady Dawgs pull away from North StarTell North Platte what you think

The North Platte High School girls' basketball team dominated the second half on Friday on their way to a 73-47 win against Lincoln North Star at the Dawg House.

NPHS (4-1) led 30-29 at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs led as much as six points in the first half but North Star (0-5) was still able to hang around.

"I don't think it was a matter of us not being intense, North Star made some shots," North Platte coach Mark Woodhead said. "But we had a six, five point lead and we were on the verge of stretching it to eight or so."

The Lady Dawgs matched their highest lead of the first half with 5:30 left in the third quarter when Sally Hengen scored when she put in a miss by Kaitlynn Harvey that made it 35-29.

Allison Sawyer then scored the next three points on basket and a missed free throw to close out the run that ignited the Lady Bulldogs.

"The second half was key," Woodhead said. "I felt like we could trap and predominantly get turnovers which would turn into layups."

North Platte led 47-35 and they put the game away with a seven-point rally to start the fourth quarter with Sawyer scoring consecutive hoops to follow a three-pointer by Harvey.

"I felt top to bottom, we played pretty solid," Woodhead said. "North Star is not a bad team either. But if we play pretty good, we make shots because we have some good shooters."
