The North Platte St. Pat's girls' basketball team got off to a torrid start on Tuesday against Ogallala and the Lady Irish never looked back in a 61-34 victory at the McGahan Activities Center.

The Lady Irish (3-1) got their first two baskets from Anna O'Malley and Bree Saner. Then O'Malley scored again on a driving layup to give St. Pat's a 6-0 lead.

Toni Caudillo then made a three-pointer to make it 9-0 with three minutes having gone by.

On the following possession, Peyton Irish nailed a pull-up jumper from 15 feet. Ogallala (1-4) then turned the ball over to Caudillo who laid it in to close out the 13-0 start for the Irish.

Fast starts were very common the previous couple of years for St. Pat's but not so much early on this year and Irish coach Nathan Stienike said it was nice to see again.

"We got off to a great start jumping out to the 13-0 lead," he said. "That gave us a lot of confidence and that helped our offense which has struggled."

The Lady Irish led 18-4 at the end of the first quarter and they never let the Indians back in it. It was 33-16 at halftime and 47-22 at the end of the third quarter.

Tuesday's game marked a return to form for the St. Pat's girls, but maybe it never left.

"Defensively, we got pressure on them," Stienike said. "We were able to make some outside shots which was big when Ogallala ran a 2-3 zone."
