In mid-November, Lincoln County Sheriff’s investigators received a report of a man who had sex with a 7-year-old girl and also had photographs of child pornography on his computer devices.

That started a chain of events that led the arrest Monday of Billy J. Schrader, 31, and Julia R. Thiemann, 32, of North Platte.

In November, investigators interviewed the child as well as several other children at the Bridge of Hope Child Advocacy Center, but the results of the interviews were inconclusive, according to a Lincoln County Sheriff’s statement.

Although no arrests were made at that time, a search warrant was conducted on the suspect’s home. Electronic devices were removed and taken to the North Platte police department for forensic analysis.

During the late afternoon Dec. 13, police investigators analyzed some of the seized devices. Preliminary results from just one phone showed at least four images of suspected child pornography, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff’s investigators found the family and removed the children, who were placed into the care of Health and Human Services. Both adults were questioned and they denied any knowledge of pornographic photos on the phone.

Additional interviews of the children were conducted at the Bridge of Hope Child Advocacy Center. A girl said Schrader did have sex with her, and she also said Thiemann photographed her and participated in sexual acts.

On Monday, Schrader and Thiemann were arrested at their home and taken to the Lincoln County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may follow, the sheriff’s office said. Meanwhile, bonds are set at $500,000 each.

In court Tuesday afternoon, both Schrader and Thiemann were charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child, which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

They are both also charged with felony child abuse (maximum penalty - five years) and five separate counts of creating/possessing child pornography (maximum - 50 years per count).
