A traffic stop for speeding Sunday on I-80 between North Platte and Hershey led to the arrest of an Arizona couple and the seizure of 128.2 lbs. of marijuana.

Around 8:43 p.m., a trooper stopped an eastbound 2002 Chevy Silverado for speeding seven miles west of the North Platte exit.

NSP spokeswoman Deb Collins said the trooper received consent to search the vehicle, and the search led to 128.2 pounds of marijuana packaged in five bundles, tucked in luggage in the cargo area.

Four children were traveling with the couple in the pickup.

The driver, Jose G. Armenta, 34, and passenger Ana C. Olivarria, 31, both of Tucson, Ariz., were both lodged in the Lincoln County Jail, charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver as well as child neglect.

Bonds were set at $100,000 each.

The children were placed in protective custody by Nebraska Health and Human Services, Collins said.
