Boys BB: St. Pat's 39, Hershey 26Tell North Platte what you think

The offensive output for North Platte St. Pat's came and went on Saturday night but the Irish got enough to get a 39-26 win over Hershey at the McGahan Activities Center.

"I thought we hung in there," St. Pat's coach Bill O'Malley said. "We continued to attack the lane and the basket and we didn't have a lot of success. But defensively, we played pretty good for the most part."

St. Pat's (3-0) went on an 11-0 run after Josh Margritz made a three-pointer for Hershey to open the game.

But Hershey established themselves afterward and the Irish only led 17-12 at the end of the first quarter.

The Panthers tied the game at 17 all early in the second quarter after another Margritz three. But St. Pat's went on to score the next eight after that to have a 25-17 lead.

Both teams battled in the third quarter and St. Pat's led 28-24 going into the fourth.

Bryce Byrn then drained a pair of threes to stretch the lead to 10 for the Irish early in the fourth quarter and they never really looked back.

"We got a couple easy ones to end the first half and then after that, we did a good job of setting in on defense," O'Malley said. "We did a good job guarding the paint."

"St. Pat's is a very talented team," Hershey coach Dustin Jorgenson said. "You can't give them buckets and let them convert. I thought we played a good game. We played hard. But I knew we'd have to have a perfect game to beat St. Pat's and didn't have that."
