Standoff ends in suicideTell North Platte what you think

North Platte police and sheriff's deputies cordoned off a house in the 900 block of North Walnut Wednesday evening, where an armed man was reportedly suicidal.

Officers tried to negotiate with the man, Jesse R. Hornbacher, 27, without success. They heard a single gunshot and when they went inside, they found Hornbacher dead.

He appeared to have died from a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound, police spokesman Rodney Brown said Thursday morning.

The official cause of death is under investigation by officials with the Lincoln County sheriffs office, who assisted the effort, Brown said.

Police first received the call around 7:30 p.m., asking them to check on Hornbacher's welfare.

Shortly after officers heard the gunshot, they deployed a tactical robot into the home. Subsequently, they entered and found Hornbacher deceased.

Brown said the investigation is ongoing and the results will be forwarded to the Lincoln County Attorney.
