Jason Tonsfeldt, May 2013
Jason Tonsfeldt, currently of Lake McConaughy, will be the new park superintendent at North Platte's Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park and recreation area, game and parks officials announced Tuesday.
The superintendent of Buffalo Bill Ranch also supervises Lake Maloney and Sutherland State Recreation Areas.
Tonsfeldt is currently at Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area as the assistant park superintendent, where he was assigned in May. Prior to that, he worked at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park for six years as the head of grounds.
Mahoney is the state’s largest and newest state park.
Nebraska Parks Division Administrator Roger Kuhn said the commission is excited for Tonsfeldt to assume his new responsibilities.
"He has demonstrated good leadership and he has great enthusiasm and energy which we are certain he will use at Buffalo Bill Ranch and in his interaction with the North Platte community," Kuhn said.
Tonsfeldt will assume his new duties on Dec. 16.
He replaces Samantha Hopkinson, who served as interim parks supervisor last summer after the departure of Aric Riggins.
