On Tuesday, the North Platte board of education will discuss the proposed designation of Madison Middle School for sixth graders only.
The board is not slated to vote on the proposal, just talk it over. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at McKinley Education Center.
The "Shaping our Future" committee, a group that has met once a month since spring to discuss and compare research about the situation, recommends the reconfiguration.
If the board approves, sixth grade will be held at the site of Madison Middle School. Seventh and eighth grades will be educated at Adams Middle School.
According to the proposal, the details of the plan would be developed by administrators. A committee of educators, parents and community members would work on the details.
As the Bulletin has reported, the final plan would be presented to the school board in the spring. The change would take place either next school year (2014-15) or the year after (2015-16), depending on how well preparations could be made.
The buildings would also be renamed. Names have not been selected, the proposal said.
