Lincoln Southwest dominated the second and third quarters on Saturday to beat North Platte 60-38 at the Dawg House in the championship game of the Platte River Classic.
Both teams played evenly in the first quarter and Southwest (2-0) had a 13-12 lead at the end of the opening eight minutes.
"We had good movement, which we didn't have in the second half," NPHS girls' basketball coach Mark Woodhead said. "We got some looks on the backdoor and Jessy (Hunt) did some good things."
The Silverhawks then went on a run to begin the second. Abby Meader and Jessica Rogers each got buckets to go down. Then Rogers made a free throw to make it a six-point lead.
Meader then hit a three-pointer in transition to end the Southwest run and it was 21-12.
For the last three minutes of the first half, the Lady Dawgs (1-1) kept the Silverhawks from getting too far ahead and the score was 30-19 at halftime.
But Southwest started the second half with another run. With three minutes left in the third quarter, Sami Beets scored bucket to put Southwest up by 20 and the Lady Bulldogs couldn't recover.
"The third quarter was devastating," Woodhead said.
