Around 6:44 p.m. a deputy on patrol saw a car with a headlight out driving on Rodeo Road near the North Platte cemetery at Adams St.

The deputy tried to pull the car over, but it sped away. During a short chase, the car drove through some yards and crashed into a small drainage ditch a couple block north on the southwest corner of 14th and Adams, according to the sheriff's report.

The driver ran off on foot, while the deputy detained three passengers. The passengers said the driver was Garrett Gray, 20.

the passengers believed Gray may have run 10 blocks west or so to a home on 15th near Buffalo school. Deputies went to the area, where they saw Gray driving another vehicle.

The sheriff's office said at about the same time, a resident called 911 and said their car was stolen. The description matched the one Gray was driving.

Gray was apprehended without further incident and taken to Great Plains Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Alcohol was a factor.

He was later jailed, charged with felony possession of stolen property, willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, leaving the scene of an accident and minor in possession of alcohol.

When Gray was interviewed by Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies he admitted to fleeing and stealing another car, the sheriff said.
