Telephone scam hits North PlatteTell North Platte what you think

Police received several complaints Wednesday morning involving a telephone scam.

Callers have reported receiving a text message, supposedly from Wells Fargo, advising them that their debit card has expired and they will need to respond with personal information to include their social security number to reinstate their card.

This is a relatively common scam, but police spokesman Rodney Brown said that in many cases the recipients in North Platte do not even have accounts with Wells Fargo.

"Never give vital information over the phone, text or email as this is simply a phishing scam looking for unsuspecting victims," he said.

Brown said there is no need to report this particular scam to law enforcement, "as we have received reports and are investigating the matter."
