Kearney man caught in car chase near DarrTell North Platte what you think

Patrick M. Holkan of Kearney was stopped, caught and arrested Friday near Darr after he tried to escape from Nebraska State Troopers.

The uproars started when a Nebraska State Trooper tried to pull Holkan over for a traffic violation around 10:15 p.m. on I-80 a mile east of Cozad. Holken took off. He drove east about eight miles to the Darr exit, where he turned south, crossing the Platte River.

Troopers unsuccessfully deployed spikes and tried three tactical interventions with their vehicles before Holkan was stopped on the third try, according to the NSP report.

A TVI is used to stop a fleeing vehicle. Typically the trooper drives his car into the vehicle. It must be done with permission of a supervisor and effort is made to do it in a remote area.

Troopers chased Holkan for nearly 25 minutes. He was finally apprehended four miles west of the Darr Bridges, according to the NSP report.

Holkan is jailed in Dawson County, charged with felony flight to avoid arrest, driving under the influence (third offense), driving under suspension, willful reckless driving, no insurance, no seat restraint, an open container and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to the NSP.
