Deer collision points to pot Tell North Platte what you think

A deer and a car ran into each other Saturday, bringing 20 pounds of pot to light and putting two California men behind bars in the county jail.

The men were arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins said just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday, a trooper responded to a report of a crash of a 2013 Silver Chevy Impala and a deer on eastbound I-80 near the Sutherland exit.

While investigating, the trooper smelled a strong odor of marijuana from the vehicle, and received consent to search. A search of the car turned up empty, but two duffle bags containing 20 pounds of marijuana were found about 10 feet from the car in the grass near a tree.

The marijuana was in 20 individual packages.

The driver, Justin D. Bigon, 33, and a passenger James E. Brisco, 32, both of Santa Rosa, Calif., were lodged in the Lincoln County Jail, each on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, Collins said.
