A North Platte man was jailed over the weekend after his domestic partner called the police.

At around 10:10 p.m. on Friday, police went to a home in the 2000 block of West Fourth on the report of a prior assault, police spokesman Rodney Brown said.

The 30-year-old victim said that after an argument a short time earlier, her domestic partner, John Walter, 27, assaulted her.

The alleged victim said it happened next door. She said he threw her to the floor, hit her head, spit on her, kicked her and held her down by her throat, Brown said.

Following investigation, police determined there was probable cause to arrest Walter. He was jailed and charged with third-degree domestic assault, strangulation and child abuse, because there was a child present during the assault.

Bond was set at $25,000. Walter paid bail and was released Monday pending his next court appearance.
