Originally charged with third-degree sexual assault of a minor, Matt Brown agreed to a plea bargain with McPherson County Attorney Tim Brouillette and pled guilty to the reduced charge. Brouillette’s office declined to discuss the case, as per an agreement with the victim.

As part of the deal, Brown will not be allowed to have contact with children under age 16 unless he receives permission to do so. The restriction does not apply to his children.

Brown worked for the Stapleton school district since the mid-2000s and was coach of junior high girl’s basketball, volleyball, junior high varsity boys and girls track, and varsity boy’s basketball for four years.

He is no longer a member of the school’s staff.
