Shane Halcott of Sutherland, who went too far in protecting his teenage daughter, pled no contest Monday to misdemeanor child abuse and was placed on probation for a year.
Just before 1 a.m. on Aug., 25, Halcott handed a loaded shotgun to his daughter and told her to kill herself with it.
The provocative action came after an argument that erupted when the daughter told Halcott about a boy she had met at a teen dance in Hershey.
Halcott, 42, berated the girl and told her she could not date any boys. The girl became distressed. During the argument, she said in passing that she wanted to hurt herself.
Witnesses told deputies that Halcott retrieved a shotgun, pumped it and tried several times to give it to the girl.
Halcott did not deny the story when questioned.
