Two people were hospitalized Tuesday afternoon in a two-car collision on the west side of North Platte High School, shortly after school was dismissed.
Austin Myers, 17, was taken by ambulance to Great Plains Regional Medical Center with a disabling head injury, and K.C. Betancud was transported by ambulance with a visible injury to his lower leg, according to the police report.
Betancud, 18, was driving a 1984 Jeep Cherokee south on Jefferson Ave. Witnesses said he was speeding at 40-45 miles an hour. Myers was in the front passenger seat.
Tiffani Thomlison, 42, stopped her 2009 Chevy Suburban on Alpha St. at the stop sign, then pulled out to turn north. The Cherokee hit the driver’s side of the Suburban, spinning it halfway around.
The accident occurred at 3:37 p.m.
Thomlison suffered a possible back injury but was not taken to the hospital by ambulance, police said.
Besides the injuries, both vehicles were extensively damaged. Thomlison’s Suburban was damaged to the tune of $12,500 and the Cherokee sustained an estimated $3,500 in damage to the front end, according to the police report.
